"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are."   ~~Unknown

Become A Sponsor!

You may wish to sponsor an animal companion with special needs, extraordinary veterinary expenses, or for our Seniors-To-Seniors program where we match senior pets to senior people. This is where a sponsor would make all the difference in the world because pet companionship can greatly improve the quality of life for the elderly and people living with disabilities, illness, or little social contact. Many seniors would love to have a dog or cat, and have the love and time to give a pet, but they won't adopt because they are generally on fixed incomes and do not have the money for food and care. If you would like to help sponsor a companion animal for our Seniors-To-Seniors program, then we could place an animal as a "permanent foster" and the foster home will pay all veterinary expenses and provide food for the rest of the pet's life. You would also receive photos and updates about your sponsored friend.

Simply indicate in the "Message to Seller" box on the PayPal donation page, that you wish to sponsor for a special needs animal, vet expenses, or a senior. If you have a preference, please indicate which animal you wish to sponsor.

Miss Muffet

This is little Miss Muffet, a 3 or 4 year-old Chinese Crested. She was dumped at the Lancaster, CA shelter where she was left to sit in her own urine and feces due to apparent paralysis of her hind legs. They gave her no veterinary care and she suffered serious urine burns and a very deep ulcer as a result. As you can see by the photo, she sustained a great deal of damage to her skin on her hind end, legs, and tail. She cannot use her hind legs or feet at all. She seems to have some control of her bowels, but not her bladder.

The vet could not get any deep pain response in either leg, but she wagged her tail! The x-ray showed nothing broken so it is possible that this condition might be reversible. Her spinal cord is compressed, so starting tomorrow, she will be given steroids to try and reduce the swelling, and her foster mom will be doing some physical therapy on her.

Her front legs are strong and when placed in a cart, she was able to run around all over the place. Her foster mom had to put a leash on the cart so that Miss Muffet wouldn't lose control and go careening down the hill. But it sure made a difference! She was also able to “stand” on her hind legs for a few seconds. She is a much happier little girl than when she was rescued!

Miss Muffet faces much more medical care and possible surgery, but she deserves a chance at a good life filled with people who love her. Whether you make a one-time donation, or sponsor Miss Muffet until she finds her forever home, she will benefit greatly from your generosity. And you will benefit because your donation is fully tax-deductble.

Claire

Claire was surrendered to us from a backyard breeder in Texas. Previously to that she lived a life of hell in a puppy mill. Upon coming into rescue, we have since learned that this precious 10 year old girl is heartworm positive. Her skin is like leather from the years and years she has spent outside with no protection from the sun. Having never been bathed or had sunscreen, she'll need constant skin care treatment. Claire also has dry eye. Now we just have to get her through this last health problem so she can live the rest of her life in comfort, peace and love.

After years and years of producing litter after litter, Claire deserves the medical treatment and loving care she deserves!

Won't you sponsor Claire? Heartworm treatment is costly. We're hoping to raise at least $300 to offset this expense. If you can't foster, perhaps you can donate? Every little bit counts!
